For the first ever entry for my personal music blog, I chose Mindset, the first song off of the second Black Candy Plus record, (expectations) . I recorded the piano and drum machine parts in Jackson Heights, shortly after I jammed with my electronic music friends Brendan and Alex in their Williamsburg apartment and came up with a piano part that they didn’t want. It took me a few months to come up with the lyrics, which my ride on the subway inspired me for some of the imagery, and I didn’t record the vocals until Justyn and I relocated to Flatbush. He prods me sometimes that it sounds like a Chicago song, but I don’t listen to them so I’m not sure what song he’s talking about.
